Week 1: THE BIBLE
We start our discipleship journey with a lesson on the bible because it is the way God has chosen to tell us about himself. Without the bible, we would not know about God and what he desires for us. The bible is a Jesus follower’s ultimate authority. Therefore, we need an understanding of this unique book.
week 2: GOD
God has chosen to reveal himself to us through the Bible. So, what does the Bible say about the nature and character of God?
At the end of this lesson, you should know God is all powerful yet all loving creator of everyone and everything, and therefore is worthy of our allegiance.
Week 3: JESUS
If we want to be a follower of Jesus, then we need to know something about the person we are following.
At the end of this lesson, you should be able to explain who Jesus is and the most important thing Jesus did.
week 4: THE GOSPEL
Last week, we said that the most important thing that Jesus did was die and then rise from the dead. Why is it so important that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again? To explain this, we are going to look at the Gospel. Gospel just means “good news,” and in the bible it refers to the good news about Jesus. What is this good news?
At the end of this lesson, you should be able to clearly explain the Gospel.
Week 5: THE HOLY SPIRIT
After Jesus rose from the dead, He ascended into heaven. But He did not leave His followers alone. Instead, He sent the Holy Spirit to guide and empower them.
At the end of this section you should be able to explain what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
week 6: DISCIPLESHIP & IDENTITY
To be a disciple means to be a follower. Discipleship is the lifelong pursuit of living out our new identity in Christ as we learn to follow Him.
Week 7: SALVAtion, past, present, & future
As soon as we confess Jesus as Lord, we are saved from our sins and become a disciple of Jesus. But God’s redeeming work does not end there. Being a disciple of Jesus continues throughout our life and will only reach its completion when Jesus returns. This is explained in the past, present, and future aspects of our salvation.
week 8: living the christian life
how do we personally seek God and grow in our faith daily?
There are means to seek God in relationship. We do not practice these out of duty. We practice these out of delight because we love God. These rhythms don’t endear us to God or make us more spiritual. Instead, they help us grow closer to Christ, grow deep roots in our faith, and they equip us to handle the challenges we face in life.
